Dan and Quinn Lowery may have escaped the initial infection, but their journey is far from over.
Their once-safe location has been compromised, overrun by the agents and the infected.
Now, in order to survive, they must first escape…
If you’ve read the first 3 books you know Dan Lowry and his daughter Quinn remained in the junkyard. Unfortunately they have been discovered by the group sent out to kill all those that have survived the contamination and killed most of the population. Fighting their way out of the junkyard, Dan at Quinn’s suggestion decide to go to Settler’s Creek, Oklahoma to his sister in law’s farm, hoping they could find safe refuge there. Unfortunately they have a long way to travel and they not only have to avoid towns of any size to avoid not only the infected but to stay out of reach of the Agents that have been hunting them. They get past one harrowing situation after another. They fight their way across country helping those in need before continuing on. Their flight across Texas is fast and nerve wracking as they fight their way into Oklahoma. In the meantime, his sister in law, Meredith Tilly has thus far been safe from what is happening in other states and cities around her. But that is short lived as she fights for her life then goes looking for the man that broke her heart hoping he is still alive. My only complaint with her character is that no matter what she sees, knowing what is happening outside of Oklahoma, she refuses to believe what is happening to friends and neighbors even when it happens in front of her eyes. She continually places herself and others in danger and narrowly escapes with her life. With Dan and Quinn finally arriving at the ranch she must decide to either stay and fight or run with the rest of them as the horde of diseased find their way to the place she thought safe. Great read and I look forward to the next installment.
